The Smart Home residential program is a dynamic and vibrant living and learning community.

Every year, 10 undergraduate students from Duke University are selected from our applicants to become Smart Home residents.

The vision of the program is to have a diverse and interdisciplinary group of students living in the Duke Smart Home. Students from both Pratt School of Engineering and Trinity College of Arts & Sciences are encouraged to apply.


Resident Goals

  • Commit to and explore an energy-efficient lifestyle
  • Compare, use and develop smart and sustainable technology

Selection Criteria

A committee of faculty and students select Smart Home residents for:

  • Interest and partcipation in the Smart Home Program
  • Future commitment to the Program

Expectations

Each resident is expected to contribute as a member of the Executive Board or of a project team, and as a tour guide.


How much does it cost?

Housing rates are set by Duke Housing & Residence Life (Duke HRL).
